Take care of your health!
As a nail technician, you make sure day in and day out that the work you produce is beautiful and long-lasting, but how much attention do you pay to what you’re breathing in all day long?
The fine dust generated during filing, the vapors from various substances, and the constant strain of working for several hours a day can easily become the “invisible” part of salon work. Often, we only start paying attention to it when some unpleasant symptom appears: a cough, a scratchy throat, irritated eyes or skin, or perhaps respiratory complaints.
Dust isn’t just a problem when you can see it
When sanding, it’s not just the larger dust particles that are produced, the ones you see on the table or on your clothes.
You may inhale some of the fine particles that enter the air, so it’s especially important to work with proper exhaust ventilation in the salon and to ensure that the exhaust system is maintained and cleaned regularly.
Coughing, respiratory symptoms, and eye and skin irritation should not be taken lightly; if necessary, it may be worth consulting a specialist.
What can you do as a conscientious nail technician?
It’s not a single “miracle solution” that will protect you, but rather consistent habits.
- Work with adequate ventilation, and keep the exhaust system clean and in good working order.
- Minimize, wherever possible, unnecessary filing and sanding.
- Ventilate the area regularly.
- Do not sweep up dust or stir it back into the air: opt for wet cleaning instead.
- Keep materials open only as long as necessary, and be mindful of material usage.
- If you have recurring symptoms, find the cause and have it examined.
A well-structured workflow can mean less unnecessary filing, less dust, more mindful use of materials, and less physical strain.
The goal isn’t to wear yourself out faster, but to be able to continue practicing the profession you love in the long run.
The foundation of professional salon work is a predictable workflow and knowing exactly what products you’re working with.
In the Mystic Nails product line, conscious ingredient selection is supported by, among other things, the Sensitive product line and HEMA-free products.
However, it is important to note: With hypoallergenic materials, the risk of an allergic reaction is proven to be minimal, while HEMA-free products contain absolutely no HEMA. If you have existing sensitivity, it is definitely recommended to have an allergy test performed and, if necessary, to consult a dermatologist.
