New EU amendment affects artificial nail materials
The European Union has amended the European Cosmetics Regulation, according to which SILVER, i.e. silver coloring agent (CI77820) will be banned in all cosmetics after May 1, 2026 – including artificial nail products.
This ingredient is listed on labels as CI77820 INCI, so you can identify it if a product contains it.
The decision is based on new scientific evidence that the substance may potentially harm human fertility. We do not dispute the rationale behind the regulation – our job is to adapt to it responsibly and with foresight.
We learned from the TPO case
If you remember the ban on TPO, there was also an important question of interpretation:
Not only did the ban on distribution and sale come into effect on a specific date, but it later became clear that products containing the banned ingredient could not be used even in salon conditions.
Therefore, we are now leaving no room for uncertainty.
After May 1, 2026, the use of products containing SILVER (CI77820) will also be prohibited in salons.
This means that:
- it is worth reviewing your inventory,
- you should shop consciously,
- and plan ahead.
Which Mystic Nails products are affected?
Mystic Nails currently has 3 products that contain this ingredient:
- Deluxe Euphoria 02 builder gel (limited edition)
- Gel polish 168
- 176 gel polish
Deluxe Euphoria 02 was a limited edition series anyway, so it is expected to be discontinued once stocks run out.
The two gel polish colors will be removed from the webshop on May 1, 2026.
What happens now?
We will sell the affected products at a larger discount. Currently, all gel polishes are 20% off in February, and we will most likely continue the discount on the affected shades until they are completely sold out.
However, it is important to note that if you are purchasing because of the discount, you should be fully aware that these products can be used legally in salon conditions until May 1, 2026 .
The decision is yours – we believe in complete transparency.
What should you do now as a nail technician?
- Review the INCI list of your products.
- Check if CI77820 is listed.
- Plan how you will use up your stock.
- Follow official communications – because we always provide information firsthand.
Our profession is constantly changing. The nail technician who remains stable in the long term is not only creative but also conscious.
If any further restrictions or bans come into effect, we will continue to be among the first to announce them.
